Although neurological complications of brucellosis are known, they occ
ur only rarely in developed countries. Clinical presentation of neurob
rucellosis is highly variable and can involve several areas of the ner
vous system. We report a case of recurrent transient neurological defi
cits and progredient hypacusis over a period of two years prior to dia
gnosis of a chronic meningoencephalitis due to brucellosis. The latter
was diagnosed by serological tests. Magnetic resonance imaging showed
hyperintense confluent areas in the white matter of the brain as well
as an emptysella.
