The main volatile components of the oil extracted from the fruits of A
naxagorea dolichocarpa Sprag. and Sandw., Annonaceae, are delta-cadino
l, caryophyllene oxide, delta-cadinene, alpha-copaene and gamma-muurol
ene. These sesquiterpene compounds were identified previously in sever
al other Annonaceae oils, particularly from some Xylopia species. Chem
otaxonomic connections are considered between Anaxagorea and Xylopia.
