St. Mileiko et al., BALLISTIC LIMITS OF AL-6-PERCENT-MG ALLOY PLATES LAMINATED BY DIFFUSION BONDING, Theoretical and applied fracture mechanics, 21(1), 1994, pp. 9-16
Ballistic limits are obtained for Al-6% Mg alloy plates laminated by d
iffusion bonding. While all layers are made of the same metal alloys,
time of diffusion and number of layers can be altered to change the in
terlaminar strength and hence the interfacial energy of dissipation. A
n optimum laminate thickness relative to the spherical projectile diam
eter was found for a projectile velocity of about 10(3) m/s, where ene
rgy dissipated in the laminate was found to be appreciable in comparis
on with that for a homogeneous plate made of the same material and thi
ckness.
