The influence of feed type and feed quantity during early life stages
of Clarias gariepinus on the subsequent occurrence of ruptured intesti
ne syndrome (RIS) was investigated. Feed type related to live and dry
feed, whereas feed quantities were set at 1 and 3 times the optimum fe
eding level of 8.4 g kg-0.8 day-1. Results indicate that feeding Artem
ia nauplii or low levels of dry feed before week 4 will significantly
decrease the subsequent occurrence of RIS.
