An indentation technique was used as a means of evaluating the fractur
e toughness of a soda-lime glass. The specimens were indented using a
conventional Vickers hardness testing machine. Toughness values, K(Ic)
values were calculated in terms of the indentation parameters 2a and
2c, using, the Liang formula. A comparison was made between these valu
es and others obtained from three and four point bending experiments.
The effect of different storage environments (vacuum, air, water) was
also studied.
