Jm. Gopo et al., RAPID DETECTION OF SALMONELLA SPECIES IN FOODS FROM FAST-FOOD TAKE-AWAYS IN HARARE, ZIMBABWE, Discovery and innovation, 6(1), 1994, pp. 62-65
Food samples collected from a number of Fast-Food Take-aways in Harare
and screened for the presence of Salmonella spp using the conventiona
l microbiological methods and the Salmonella-specific DNA probe method
s, which showed 4.6% and 33.304% respectively. The probe method did no
t require the use of pre-enrichment and selective culture media. Sampl
e processing was completed within 12-18 hours with large number of sam
ples (500) being screened at a time, using small amounts of probes.
