A clinical experience with radiotherapy in 18 patients with alveolar s
oft-part sarcoma is presented. Adjuvant radiotherapy was associated wi
th prolonged local control in six of six patients without metastatic d
isease at diagnosis; later one patient relapsed systematically. Meanin
gful palliation was achieved in all patients with extra-skeletal (and
possibly skeletal) metastatic disease. Radiation therapy may be benefi
cial for patients with alveolar soft-part sarcoma by enhancing local c
ontrol achieved with limited surgery, by retarding progression of meta
static deposits, and by providing meaningful palliation. (C) 1994 Wile
