T. Kinjyo et al., COMPRESSED-AIR INJURY OF THE COLON COMPLICATED BY RHABDOMYOLYSIS - CASE-REPORT, The journal of trauma, injury, infection, and critical care, 36(4), 1994, pp. 592-593
We present a case of traumatic injury of the colon by compressed air.
Elevated levels of urinary myoglobin, creatinine phosphokinase, lactat
e dehydrogenase, and glutamic oxaloacetic transaminase indicating rhab
domyolysis were noted. In this type of injury, rhabdomyolysis related
to acute peripheral circulatory failure may occur because of obstructi
on of venous return to the heart following a great increase in intrape
ritoneal pressure.
