Polyamic acids containing a perfluoropropyl group were obtained by the
reactions of pefluorobutyryl peroxide with the corresponding polyamic
acids in 1,1,2-trichloro-1,2,2-trifluoroethane (Freon 113) under mild
conditions. This aromatic perfluoropropylation in Freon 113 proceeded
in good perfluoropropylated ratios by using trifluoroacetic acid or 1
,1,1,3,3,3-hexafluoro-2-propanol as co-solvent; however, the molecular
weights of the obtained perfluoropropylated polyamic acids were lower
than those of parent polyamic acids.
