A. Shajii et Jp. Freidberg, QUENCH IN SUPERCONDUCTING MAGNETS .1. MODEL AND NUMERICAL IMPLEMENTATION, Journal of applied physics, 76(5), 1994, pp. 3149-3158
A new simple, self-consistent theoretical model is presented that desc
ribes the phenomena of quench propagation in Cable-in-Conduit supercon
ducting magnets. The model circumvents many of the difficulties associ
ated with obtaining numerical solutions in more general existing model
s. Specifically, a factor of 30-50 is gained in CPU time over the gene
ral, explicit time-dependent codes used to study typical quench events
. The corresponding numerical implementation of the new model is descr
ibed and the numerical results are shown to agree very well with those
of the more general models, as well as with experimental data.
