Poly(allylmethylsilylene-co-benzylidene) is obtained by treatment of a
llylmethyldichlorosilane with alpha,alpha-dibromotoluene and magnesium
as reducing agent. The polymer reacts with triflic acid under substit
ution of the allyl group to give the triflate derivative. The conversi
on of this compound with element hydrogen compounds and triethylamine
or with lithium salts leads to numerous new functionally substituted p
olycarbosilanes. The modified polymers have been characterised by NMR
spectroscopy (Si-29, C-13, H-1).
