A. Drenchen et M. Bert, A GASTROENTERITIS ILLNESS OUTBREAK ASSOCIATED WITH SWIMMING IN A CAMPGROUND LAKE, Journal of environmental health, 57(2), 1994, pp. 7-10
A gastroenteritis illness outbreak occurred at a campground on June 11
-13, 1993, in Oakland County, Michigan. The 626-acre campground contai
ns six man-made lakes and is served by municipal sewer and vault privi
es. The potable water source is from on-site well supplies. Of the 111
telephone interviews conducted, 53 persons were identified as ill, pr
edominantly with diarrhea, vomiting, and abdominal cramps. There was a
n association between illness and swimming in one of the man-made lake
s. The investigation indicated a potential viral etiology. The source
may have been an incontinent swimmer.
