Mj. Roberts et al., THE SENTENCE PICTURE VERIFICATION TASK - METHODOLOGICAL AND THEORETICAL DIFFICULTIES, British journal of psychology, 85, 1994, pp. 413-432
The sentence-picture verification task has received a great deal of at
tention over the years, and it has been a source of many interesting f
indings concerning the relationships between individual differences in
people's abilities, task performance and strategy selection. However,
there are a number of problems with interpreting data from this task
as it appears to be particularly difficult to reliably classify subjec
ts into distinct strategy groups. The purpose of this work was to revi
ew the various classification systems used by previous researchers and
assess their validity. No system was found to be without problems, an
d it is suggested that previous conclusions derived from this task may
not be justified.
