Abstract
The author examines current challenges to the concept of individualism as they relate to social work's guiding principle of person-in-enviro nment and to clinical social work practice. Feminist and constructioni st thinking help broaden social work's conceptualization of the indivi dual and his or her relationship to the environment. Implications for clinical social work practice are presented.
