The Hudson volcano eruptions in August 1991 flung out appreciable amou
nts of ashes, particulate material and gases. Its volcanic ashes affec
ted the Argentinean Patagonia, especially the Santa Cruz province. X-r
ay techniques have been employed in order to determine the composition
, crystalline silica structure and particle size distribution of the f
allen ashes. Quantitative X-ray fluorescence results are compared with
data from the Lonquimay volcano (Chile, 1988) and Mt St Helens (USA,
1980) eruptions.
