Abstract
An assessment has been made of the analytical potential of practical n uclear reactions on the transition metals, induced by deuteron beams o f 5 MeV. The origin of observed prompt gamma rays was identified. Most of the more intense radiation originated from (d, n) and (d, p) react ions, but some from (d, alpha) reactions and from Coulomb excitation w ere noted. The possibilities of practical application for the determin ation of transition metals were investigated, and the efficacy of the method was shown by the determination of Co in some standard steels.
