E. Alves et al., THE LATTICE SITE OF AU IN BE AFTER 24-H HG-197M ISOTOPE IMPLANTATION AND DECAY, Nuclear instruments & methods in physics research. Section B, Beam interactions with materials and atoms, 85(1-4), 1994, pp. 457-461
Combining e- -gamma perturbed angular correlations, internal-channelin
g and Rutherford backscattering spectrometry/channeling experiments pe
rformed on the same sample, it is shown that Hg and Au ions after the
implantation of Hg-197m in beryllium occupy the same substitutional la
ttice site. The very high electric field gradients measured are explai
ned by HgBe and AuBe pairs formed by the implantation of Hg. Some puzz
ling results reported in the literature are discussed and explained us
ing this model.
