A. Banerjee et al., IODOMETRIC DETERMINATION OF SOME INORGANIC OXIDANTS IN BINARY MIXTUREBY SELECTIVE DECOMPOSITIONS OF ONE OF THE COMPONENTS, Journal of the Indian Chemical Society, 70(10), 1993, pp. 827-831
The individual components of binary mixtures composed of MnO4-, BrO3-,
Cr2O7(2-), and IO3- have been determined iodometrically employing app
osite organic substrates to decompose selectively and quantitatively o
ne of the oxidants. In the aqueous solution the MnO4- reacted with cin
namic acid to furnish an insoluble derivative which was separated by f
iltration from the other oxidant followed by estimation of each ingred
ient. When BrO3- was present with Cr2O7(2-), the former was decomposed
completely with KBr in the presence of dilute acid and acetanilide at
room temperature. Iodometric estimation of IO3- in the presence of ei
ther BrO3- or Cr2O7(2-) was carried out using potassium hydrogen phtha
late or formalin to decompose BrO3- or Cr2O7(2-). The total amount of
oxidant was determined iodometrically in every mixture to calculate th
e quantities of each component.
