R. Hanaoka et al., EFFECT OF ELECTRODE ICE LAYER ON PREBREAKDOWN CURRENT IN LIQUID-NITROGEN, IEEE transactions on dielectrics and electrical insulation, 1(4), 1994, pp. 741-746
The effect or ice on dc prebreakdown events was investigated using a n
eedle-to-plane electrode system in liquid nitrogen at 77.3 K. It was f
ound that H2O ice has marked effects on prebreakdown current, corona o
nset voltage and breakdown voltage. The breakdown voltage at atmospher
ic pressure depends on microscopic cracks in H2O ice.
