Abstract
The general expression for corrections to the diamagnetic susceptibili ty of a degenerate electron ps with smooth inhomogeneities is derived. Inhomogeneities may lead to an increase or decrease of the system dia magnetic susceptibility depending on the type of electron density prof ile. The nonlinear susceptibility is also obtained.
