An alternative analytical methodology has been developed to evaluate t
he in vivo percutaneous penetration of non-radioactive compounds in hu
man stratum corneum by the stripping technique. Different amino acids
were applied and even though a slight influence of their structure was
found on percutaneous penetration, some topical application strategie
s such as vehicles, skin preparation and evaporation conditions were c
onsidered to be important for skin permeation. The amino acid amount f
ound in the stratum corneum could probably be sufficient to express it
s moisturizing action.
