This article will present a personal view of metabolic profiling by ma
ss spectrometry, predominantly gas chromatography/mass spectrometry (G
C/MS)-its strengths and its weaknesses, its needs and its wants, and h
ow it might best be used and, perhaps, how it should not. This will be
my own perspective on this subject-if it seems narrow of scope it wil
l be so because it has become difficult to be a successful 'Jack-of-al
l-trades' in this business.
