The solubility and phase equilibria in UO2F2-H2O-organic-base systems
are studied. The organic bases used were ethanol (EtOH), isopropanol (
i-PrOH), acetonitrile (CH3CN), and dimethylsulfoxide (DMSO). Saturated
aqueous-ethanol solutions contain only the dihydrate. However, a soli
d of formula UO2F2-i-PrOH forms in addition to the dihydrate in the is
opropanol system; of formula UO2F2.2H2O.CH3CN, in the CH3CN system. Th
e equilibrium of saturated solutions and solid UO2F2.DMSO covers a bro
ad range in the DMSO system. The solubility of UO2F2 in the aqueous-or
ganic mixtures is correlated with the ability of the organic molecule
to form a complex with UO2F2.
