Preparation of layered stracture LiNiO2 by the alcoholate method has b
een studied. The spinel type LiNiO2 (x< 1) has been formed by pre-heat
ing powder samples obtained by pyrolysis of Ni-alcoholate at 400-degre
es-C in both oxygen or air at 720-degrees-C. The final heating above 7
20-degrees-C in oxygen is important to prepare the electroactive layer
ed LiNiO2. The LiNiO2 prepared by the final heating at 740-degrees-C s
howed excellent discharge capacity of 150 mAH/g after several cycles a
t c. d. 0.4 mA/cm2 in lithium secondary batteries. The intercalation a
nd deintercalation of Li+ ion in LixNiO2(0.4<x<1.0) have been studied
by XRD analysis. The initial deintercalation of Li+ from originally pr
epared LiNiO2 to Li0.41 NiO2 proceeded in two phase reaction. Once Li0
.41NiO2 is formed by the first charging process, intercalation and dei
ntercalation reactions of Li+ ion in Li0.41NiO2 occur in one phase rea
ction.
