Abstract
The previous paper dealt with the mono- and disulphonation of benzene using oleum and concentrated sulphuric acid. This paper discusses the parameters of batch sulphonation reaction. The sulphonation of toluene can be carried out with excellent yield and selectivity, moreover, ev en at short residence times. A suitable analytical method was elaborat ed for the evaluation of the experimental results, for the analysis of samples taken from the reaction mixture. The experiments were carried out in a rotation film reactor. Sulphuric acid and oleum were used in the sulphonation of toluene.
