The Florida dental AIDS tragedy involving Dr. David J. Acer and at lea
st six patients represents one of the greatest unsolved mysteries in t
he annals of medicine. This article compares the social and psychologi
cal profile of the dentist with those obtained by studying two groups
of serial killers and a set of people who knowingly exposed others to
HIV. With each comparison, a very close match was found providing evid
ence that the doctor-to-patient transmissions were most likely intende
d. A discussion of the correlates, predictors, and theoretical motives
for the infections is provided.
