Abstract
We have published the results of the study (C h r e n e k o v a et al. , 1992) and this scientific paper is its continuation. We followed the effects of polymetallic waste from the Sered' Nickel Foundry and the Orava Ferro-Alloy Plant and their fundamental element - chromium. We d etermined the territory about 25 km2 in both areas where the actual ch arged of soil and planting crops by chromium was followed. To identify the forms Cr(III) and Cr(VI) in plants the proposed method was very s uitable for determination of chromium without destruction of plant mat erial by mineralization. The different forms of chromium in waste were dependent on different risk of their input to soil and subsequent tra nsfer of chromium to plant. The research conducted in the years 1991 t o 1993 characterizes this area near the waste dump at Istebne as conta mination by chromium. The exceeding values of chromium for soil and fo rage crops bring relative soluble forms of Cr(VI) into soil. In the Se red' site with different soils contamination does not exceed the limit s of mobile forms of chromium, as the waste contains chromium in a rel atively resistant spinel form of Cr(III).
