Reaction of tetraalkoxycalix[4]arenes 1 and 2 with silver trifluoroace
tate followed by in situ addition of iodine leads to the corresponding
iodocalix[4]arenes 3 and 4 in 90% yield. The insertion of terminal al
kynes was obtained in good yield using copper(I) iodide-tetrakis(triph
enylphosphine)palladium(0) as catalyst. The synthesis of a double cali
x[4]arene, 11, bearing two bis-ethynyl bridges is reported.
