The threshold energy for endohedral He@C60 formation under single coll
ision conditions is shown to depend strongly on the internal energy of
the fullerence. Under source conditions in which defects in the fulle
rene cage structure may be expected (high fluence laser desorption, hi
ghly excited ions) the threshold energy may be as low as 3 eV. Oscilla
tory structure is observed in the capture cross sections as a function
of collison energy.
