CALCITE FABRIC FROM THE SOUTHERN PART OF THE CHITRADURGA SCHIST BELT,KARNATAKA

On the basis of calcite orientation, the temporal relations between cr ystallisation, folding and formation of foliation in the Chitradurga s chist belt are attempted. Stress orientation at the time of deformatio n and spatial orientation of the hinge lines of syncrystallisation fol ds have been determined. While syntectonic recrystallisation seems to be the dominant mechanism, pressure solution and intracrystalline defo rmation might also have played a role in fabric development.
