Background. Chronic myelomonocytic leukemia has been associated with v
arious nonspecific cutaneous manifestations. Rarely has the leukemia b
een reported to directly affect the skin. Methods. This case documents
the progression of a patient who ultimately developed chronic myelomo
nocytic leukemia, by clinical examination, hematologic parameters, der
matopathology, and bone marrow pathology. Results, The skin showed non
specific cutaneous involvement, progressing to specific leukemic lesio
ns parallel with increasing systemic and hematologic involvement. Conc
lusions. Chronic myelomonocytic leukemia can manifest with lesions of
leukemia cutis. The possibility of nonspecific cutaneous involvement i
n the preleukemic phase exists.
