This article focuses on those disorders traditionally considered as em
boli and includes fat embolism, air embolism, tumor embolism, and amni
otic fluid embolism. These entities, as well as other unusual embolic
events, are uncommon disorders that occur in specific circumscribed cl
inical settings. The authors attempt to provide the readers with a cog
nitive jolt to remind the reader to consider these unusual events in a
ppropriate differential diagnosis.
