One-hundred and twenty fields of cereals, legumes and sugar beet were
surveyed by stratified sampling in the Loukkos region (north-west Moro
cco). In total, 244 weed species belonging to 37 plant families were r
ecorded. Three families, the Asteraceae, Fabaceae and Poaceae accounte
d for 41.8% of the species. Dicotyledons (82.3%), annuals (82.8%) and
the mediterranean floristic element (63.9) were predominant and charac
terized the weed flora. The agronomic study made it possible to distin
guish 45 species causing appreciable problems to the crops surveyed. T
he weeds common to the three types of crop comprised 51.5%, 56.6% and
60.7% of the problem species in sugar beet, cereals and legumes, respe
ctively.
