Cr. Bursey et al., OOCHORISTICA UBELAKERI N-SP (CYCLOPHYLLIDEA, LINSTOWIIDAE) FROM THE SOUTH-AFRICAN ROCK AGAMA, AGAMA-ATRA KNOBELI, Transactions of the American Microscopical Society, 113(3), 1994, pp. 400-405
Five specimens of Oochoristica ubelakeri n. sp. were recovered from th
e small intestine of 1 of 5 (20%) Agama atra knobeli from Namibia. Ooc
horistica ubelakeri n. sp. is most similar to O. theileri, originally
described from the spiny agamid lizard, Agama hispida, in South Africa
, but differs by having a much less muscular genital atrium, a lobed o
vary, and an oval vitellarium. The new species may be differentiated r
eadily from the two other species of Oochoristica from sub-Saharan Afr
ican reptiles in that its testes occur in two clusters rather than one
. In addition, O. ubelakeri n. sp. was found in 1 of 10 (10%) sand gec
kos, Chondrodactylus at angulifer, also from Namibia.
