Abstract
In the low-pressure synthesis of methanol from carbon oxides and hydro gen over copper-based catalysts, the effect of catalyst pellet geometr y has been investigated. A model for studying reaction within any suff iciently symmetrical porous catalyst particle has been also provided. Fugacity coefficients and compositions are calcd. by using the Redlich -Kwong-Soave state equation, and the kinetics model announced by Villa et al. has been used for computing the reaction rates. The reaction i s considered to proceed within isothermal and isobaric catalyst pellet s. External diffusion has been neglected.
