The interaction of Na-23 with Pb-206 at energies around the Coulomb ba
rrier for quasielastic scattering and for fusion followed by fission h
as been investigated, partly with aligned projectiles. Quasielastic-sc
attering data are required to determine the energy dependence of the s
trength of the double-folding potential used in coupled-channel calcul
ations. The real and imaginary part of the energy-dependent strength o
f the potential turn out to be correlated by a dispersion relation. Th
e fusion excitation function and the associated second-rank-tensor ana
lyzing powers can be described parameter-free using the real energy-de
pendent potential if channel coupling is considered as well. Finally,
the transmission coefficients extracted from such calculations can be
used as input for calculations of the fission angular distributions. D
eviations are observed at the lowest bombarding energy.
