Lb. Sheeber et Jh. Johnson, EVALUATION OF A TEMPERAMENT-FOCUSED, PARENT-TRAINING PROGRAM, Journal of clinical child psychology, 23(3), 1994, pp. 249-259
Examined the efficacy of a temperament-focused, psychoeducational inte
rvention for mothers with temperamentally difficult preschoolers. Resu
lts indicated that, relative to those assigned to a wait-list control
group, mothers who participated in the parent-training program, demons
trated increased satisfaction with parent-child relationships and perc
eived parenting competence, as well as improved affect. In addition, r
eductions in mother-rated child behavior problems and disruptions in f
amily lifestyle were observed. Treatment gains were maintained at 2-mo
nth follow-up. These results provide preliminary support for temperame
nt-based parent training.
