Abstract
Within a left-right symmetric model embedded in SO(10), the unificatio n parameters M(GUT) and 1/alpha(GUT) are analysed as functions of the numbers of fermion families (F) and Higgs multiplets (S). Analytic and numerical solutions to the leading and next-to-leading order evolutio n equation for the couplings ai are obtained. We find that restriction s on the unification parameters constrain F and S and, unlike SUSY SU( 5), an acceptable unification scenario can still be obtained when Higg s bosons are ignored.
