Abstract
Sonic transitions in a scrape-off layer (SOL) are discussed, showing t he importance of particle and momentum sources, temperature gradients, area change and viscous effects. Supersonic boundary conditions are c onsidered. Sonic transitions are modelled over a wide range of paramet ers using EDGE1D.
