V. Thunus et al., A NUMERICAL-SIMULATION OF TRANSPORT AND SEDIMENTATION OF SUSPENDED PARTICLES IN LAKE-NEUCHATEL, Eclogae Geologicae Helvetiae, 87(2), 1994, pp. 385-402
The dispersion and sedimentation of suspended particulate matter in La
ke Neuchatel are studied with a numerical model. To simulate the curre
nts in the lake, a three dimensional general circulation model is appl
ied. A six weeks run is performed under late autumn conditions, in whi
ch the particle load of rivers entering the lake is high. Meteorologic
al wind data and realistic thermal stratification are included in the
model. At the Areuse river output, particles are injected into the lak
e. In addition to their advection by the currents, the particles posse
ss a vertical settling velocity. The simulation indicates that privile
ged deposition areas for suspended particulate matter which is dischar
ged by the Areuse river, are confined to the north-east region of the
lake.
