Abstract
The principal reaction of the molecular ions of 2,4-bis-imino-1,3-diaz
etidines 1a-1d is a [2 + 2] cycloreversion to carbodiimides. This ring
cleavage reaction is preceded by an isomerization process for long-li
ved metastable molecular ions. This peculiar behavior is also observed
for the neutral diazetidines upon short-contact-time flash-vacuum pyr
olysis.
