The global permanent magnet markets are several billion dollars a year
. Anisotropic NdFeB magnets, the strongest ones, are made by sintering
or by hot pressing of amorphous ribbons. Our aim is to obtain anisotr
opic bulk material by casting and applying a thermo-mechanical treatme
nt. Nd2.5Fe13CoC0.95B0.05 was found to be a promising composition with
a nearly complete phase transition between 850 degrees C and 1080 deg
rees C. The time temperature transition behaviour of Nd2.5Fe13CoC0.95B
0.05 was investigated. First thermo-mechanical experiments were made.
The orientation of the crystallites is caused mainly by plastic deform
ation and not by uniaxial pressure.
