Mass transfer in the absorption of sparingly soluble gases in apparatu
s with the gas phase dispersed by submerged flat liquid jets has been
studied. In deriving the equation for the output of the absorbed compo
nent two zones were distinguished in the operational volume of the app
aratus, the active and the bubbling zone. The absorption rate of the t
arget component in the active zone is 3-11 times higher than that in t
he bubbling zone. This effect is due to the fact that in the active zo
ne the specific surface of the phase contact is greater and the drivin
g force of the mass transfer is higher.
