The problem of high-resolution solid state NMR of quadrupolar nuclear
spins (where I> 1/2) has been recently solved. The twin techniques of
dynamic angle spinning (DAS) and double rotation (DOR) demonstrate res
olution comparable to that observed in high-resolution spectra of C-13
or N-15. This presents a substantial extension as most NMR-active spi
ns are quadrupolar. In this review we describe previous techniques, an
d explain why DAS and DOR yield superior results.
