Abstract
The value of the symptom pattern in achieving an accurate diagnosis in dyspeptic disease is still controversial. A number of investigators h ave used it to distinguish those patients who are at a high risk of se rious disease (ulcer or cancer) from those who are not. Such findings have important implications for patient management, both in clinical a nd economic terms.
