Abstract
We study an SO(3) Chem-Simons gauge theory coupled to a Higgs triplet which breaks the symmetry down to U(1). Working in euclidean space we find monopole (instanton) solutions and discuss their basic properties , in particular those related to the resulting divergence of the actio n. We discuss the definition of electromagnetic strength tensor and th e issue of charge conservation in the presence of Chern-Simons monopol es. We also comment on the relevance of the solution in respect of con finement.
