R. Hassan, TEMPORAL VARIATIONS IN SUICIDE OCCURRENCE IN AUSTRALIA - A RESEARCH NOTE, Australian and New Zealand journal of sociology, 30(2), 1994, pp. 194-202
This paper reports the findings of a study of temporal variations in s
uicide occurrence in Australia. The study is based on the analysis of
19,425 suicides registered between 1981 and 1990. The findings show th
at the incidence of suicide appears to follow a distinct weekly cycle.
This cycle is more pronounced for men than women. Suicide occurrence
also varies by seasons. Some sociological explanations of these differ
ences are offered.
