Abstract
The problem of entropy-constrained multiple-description scalar quantiz er design is posed as an optimization problem, necessary conditions fo r optimality are derived, and an iterative design algorithm is present ed. Performance results are presented for a Gaussian source, along wit h comparisons to the multiple-description rate distortion bound and a reference system.
