Vl. Kalashnikov et al., SELF-MODELOCKING OF CW SOLID-STATE LASERS WITH NONLINEAR BIREFRINGENTPOLARIZATION MODULATOR, Kvantovaa elektronika, 21(2), 1994, pp. 101-105
The possibility of effective self-modelocking is shown for cw solid-st
ate lasers with two types of nonlinear birefringent polarization modul
ators on the basis of fluctuation model. Discriminative performance of
the modulators is based on utilyzing of the intensity dependent rotat
ion and distortion of the polarization ellipse of the radiation propag
ating in birefringent medium due to self-phase modulation of the two p
olarization components. The linear phase mismatching of the components
and angular orientations of modulator elements are founded for which
the modulators possess the discriminative properties. The analysis of
the cw laser parameter ranges of effective self-modelocking due to non
linear birefringent modulators is performed.
