An application is considered of the bulk three-channel structure of an
interferometer to obtain a correlation function of the third order fo
r the analysis of the structure of a single ultrashort laser pulse. Op
tical signals produced in the two channels of the interferometer are u
sed to control electrooptical cells serving as fast valves. A signal f
rom the third channel of the interferometer passes consecutively throu
gh the controlled cells. The two-coordinate intensity distribution obt
ained at the output corresponds to the correlation function of the thi
rd order. This intensity distribution can be recorded. The analysis of
the structure of the triple correlation function allows one to acquir
e the information on the time distribution of intensity in the signal
studied.
